NUTL Basic Sciences Labs

There are three labs related to basic sciences namely Physics Labs, Chemistry Labs and Biology Labs.  The major equipment in these labs include Electrochemical Workstation, Gas Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, DNA and Protein Analyzer, Light and Fluorescence Microscope, Coulomb’s Law Apparatus, Earth Magnetic Field detector etc. 

Physics Lab

The objective of the Physics Lab is to supply the practical knowledge for a complete subject understanding and relate it with Engineering Programs.

  • Familiarization with the working of Basic Laboratory Equipment
  • Verification of Coulomb’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, Newton’s Law, Ideal Gas Law and Ampere’s Law.
  • Understand the concepts of Dielectric Constant in the presence or absence of Dielectric Material.
  • Analysis of Various RLC Circuits.
  • Verification of Faraday’s Constant.
  • Familiarization with the IV Characteristics of Solar Cells.
  • Investigate the temperature dependence of different resistors and diodes.
  • Examine the various parameters that affect the Capacitance of a parallel plate Capacitor.
  • Study the Time Period of different regular and irregular shapes.

Biology Lab

The objective of this lab is to provide a comprehensive education in biology that stresses scientific reasoning and problem solving across the spectrum of disciplines within biology.

  • Familiarization with the working of Basic Laboratory Equipment and lab safety measures and good lab practices.
  • Understanding the fundamental concepts and hands-on practice of DNA extraction, its amplification and separation by gel electrophoresis and further purification of amplified products.
  • Detection, characterization and quantification of nucleic acids for numerous applications by use of the latest qPCR technique.
  • Diagnostic qualitative PCR to rapidly detect nucleic acids for detection of infectious diseases, cancer, genetic abnormalities, detection of phytopathogens and Quantification of gene expression
  • Detection of various macromolecules and understanding of their biochemical pathways.
  •  Identification and quantification of biomolecules based upon spectrophotometry principles. .
  • Microscopic examination and identification of various plants and animal cells.
  • Use of fluorescence microscope for live cell observation and structure explication of cells and tissues without toxic and time consuming staining process.
  • Inoculation and culture preparation of different microbial strains by growing in an aseptic environment.
  • Evaluation of antibiotic and fungal drug resistance.
  • Investigation of the drug sample, efficient and gentle removal of solvents from samples by evaporation.

Chemistry Lab

The objective of this lab is to provide a broad foundation in chemistry that stresses hands-on experience in handling instruments and acquisition of knowledge coupled to theoretical concepts.
