1. Become Your Own Boss – Entrepreneurship & Freelancing

NORIC organized a seminar titled “Become Your Own Boss – Entrepreneurship Journey & Freelancing” on 05 Dec 2022 in Auditorium. Mr. Kashif M. Khan, Managing Director, Global Entrepreneurship Network Pakistan and Mr. Ahmed Ayaz Noor, CEO/Founder of Wolfiz Technologies were the guest speakers for the event. Mr. Kashif Khan highlighted the importance of Communication and Interpersonal Skills in professional life and gave pertinent suggestions to enhance these skills. Mr. Ahmed Ayaz Noor along with his team emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and suggested the roadmap to become a successful freelancer narrating numerous success stories. Seminar was broadcasted on video link for the public as well. Event was concluded by Air Commodore Farooq Umer Director NORIC who thanked all the participants and presented souvenirs to the guest speakers.

2. Future Ready: Preparing for Successful Careers

Our contemporary world has its unique blend of challenges as well as opportunities; the larger challenge is the rapid change that is taking place around us. Capitalizing on opportunities and tackling challenges both require enhanced robustness in leadership attributes. In the same context, NORIC (NUTECH Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization) arranged a seminar for NUTECH students on Future Ready: Preparing for Successful Careers on 31 January 2023. A group of experts committed to enhancing leadership skills and students’ self-actualization was engaged to conduct the seminar. Four distinguished speakers conducted the seminar at NUTECH, Air Vice Marshal Asad Ikram (R) – (Senior Advisor for Officer Training and Jinnah Centre for Character & Leadership, PAF, and the Principal Advisor National Incubation Centre for Aerospace), Air Commodore Khalid Banuri (R) (Advisor Training Jinnah Centre for Character & Leadership PAF), Dr. Bushra Hassan (Consultant for developing and delivering curriculum for Jinnah Centre for Character and Leadership PAF) and Mr. Imran Jattala (Startup & Innovation Ecosystem Builder, Founder of Pakistan Chapter of Hult Prize, Visiting faculty for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Air University). These experts brought diverse and wide-ranging experiences which furnished NUTECH students with something novel and different to think about and practice. The seminar was concluded by Director NORIC who thanked all the participants and presented souvenirs to the honorable guest speakers. Overall, the seminar was interactive and enriched with valuable information. The session was informative and turned out to be very beneficial for NUTECH students.

3. NUTECH-OBA-PSTC-Industry Joint Collaboration Symposium (NOIJCS) February, 2020

National University of Technology (NUTECH) conducted a day-long “NUTECH-Pak Swiss Old Boys Association (OBA)-Pak Industry Joint Collaboration Symposium” on 18th February, 2020 which aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry of the country. The symposium is perceived to be of historic nature as its 3-session based activities will lay very strong foundation of NUTECH’s relationship and cooperation with industrial sector. This relationship; in the long run will transform Pakistan’s industry to meet the challenges of 21st Century, especially 4th Industrial Revolution The symposium brought academia, industry and Govt at one platform to deliberate upon the road map and design of prosperous industry and bright Pakistan. The symposium entailed sessions on different proposed plans for designing industry / sector specific state-of-the-art labs, centres and institutes at NUTECH to create, develop, promote and transfer indigenous technologies for exponential rise in value-added products and multiplication of earnings for business and industry in future.Earlier on arrival at National University of Technology, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Engineer in Chief Lt Gen Moazzam Ejaz, Chief of Logistics Staff Lt Gen Azhar Saleh Abbasi and other worthy guests from Industry and Corporate Sector were received by the Rector of the University Lieutenant General Khalid Asghar (Retired).At the occasion, Senior Leadership and representatives of industry and business including FPCCI, KCCI, LCCI, ICCI, KATI, S.I.T.E, NKATI, LATI, BQATI, FBATI, S.I.T.E Superhighway, PPMA, PHMA, PAKSEA, PPMA, TMA, PAAPAM, P@SHA, APMIA, SIMAP and ABAD were present who expressed their views and presented various suggestions to improve relationship between academia and industry. It has also been emphasized in the Symposium that in near future NUTECH campus be established in Karachi for which Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Industry and NUTECH will collaborate. NUTECH Policy Cell has been established which will support the industry by formulating future policies for the industry.

4. Defense Industries Symposium February, 2020

NUTECH conducted its first Defence Industries Symposium on 13th February, 2020 which aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry of the country. The symposium brought academia and industry at one platform to deliberate upon the road map and design of prosperous industry and bright Pakistan Representatives from industries such as Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Pakistan Ordinance Factories, Aviation Research Innovation & Development, National Radio Telecommunication Cooperation, Heavy Industries Taxila, Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works, Air Weapons Complex and Inspection Research & Technical Development Directorate (ITD) were present at the occasion.

5. BET(CE) Symposium November, 2020

In order to design very realistic curriculum of the proposed degree program and methodology of its execution, a consultative meeting of important stake holders representing Academia-Industry has been planned at NUTECH. NORIC engaged lead industrialist of country to conduct this program including chambers and associations etc. Lead industrialists played a role of facilitator. At this occasion, Rector Lt Gen (Retd) Khalid Asghar reiterated that academia and industry should join hand to educate and produce technically sound applied (Hands-on) HR having sound (require) theoretical knowledge in order to plan and execute industrial projects in most effective and efficient manner by following best practices.

6. BET(CE) Inauguration/Launching Ceremony February, 2021

The BET (CE) is the first of its kind innovative cooperative model program designed in concert with the construction industry of Pakistan. This programme has been launched in the Fall of 2021 with a total of 140 credits. The programme lays special emphasis on infrastructural engineering technologies for planning, design modules, and construction and environment management. The BET (CE) programme will make certain that the graduates will have employment within the construction industry based on their technical expertise, management capabilities, networking skill, and acquaintance with high end technologies during the studies.

7. A webinar on “Academia-Industry Linkages: A Fresh Approach Amidst COVID Pandemic”

NUTECH office of Research, Innovation Commercialization (NORIC) organized NUTECH’s first webinar titled “Academia Industry Linkages: A Fresh Approach Amidst COVID Pandemic” on 23 Sep 2021. The webinar aimed to strengthen the relationship between academia & industry in COVID environment and provide the platform to industrialists, policy makers, scholars from different fields to share their perspective and experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eminent scholars from academia and CEOs from leading organizations participated in the webinar. DG NORIC Air Vice Marshal Asif Maqsood welcomed the distinguished guest speakers. Mr. Tahir Chaudhry President & CEO PIE were the moderators Among the guest speakers, Dr. Bhawani Shankar (Professor MUET, Jamshoro), Mr. Nazir Vaid (U-Health International Hospital), Dr. Ashraf Masood (CEO KHASTECH Solutions), Mr. Asim Hussain (CEO IGNITE) and Mr. Zia Khan (Chief Coordinator PIAIC) participated in the webinar. Dr. Bhawani Shankar highlighted the role of IEEE and other professional bodies in technology-enhanced development during COVID-19. Mr. Nazir Vaid spotlighted on demised and emerging professions under influence of COVID-19 and upcoming distractions, Dr. Ashraf Masood emphasized on Hybrid leaning mechanism for higher technical education amidst Covid-19), Mr. Asim Hussain stressed on thematic areas funded by Ignite before and after COVID-19. Mr. Zia Khan emphasized on getting ready for The API first and ownership economy (establishing Pakistani Unicorn Company). At the end, Rector NUTECH Lt Gen (Retd) Khalid Asghar thanked all the guest speakers and assured the series of webinars to continue in near future. He also dilated that NUTECH being the University for Industry continues to play its role and utilize all its potential to achieve its vision of bridging the gap between industry and academia. The webinar ended with interactive question answer session and presentation of souvenirs to the guests.
