About Physics

Welcome to the Physics Division of NUTECH School of Applied Sciences and Humanities at NUTECH.

Physics is what governs every single entity that exists in the universe. Everything from the tiniest scale of elementary particles to the gigantic astronomical bodies, obey its laws. Since everything is driven by Physics, every useful tool, machine or structure that one can think of, have to be made with its appropriate knowledge. A building, for instance, cannot be designed or built without considerations of Forces, Equilibrium, Material properties, Stress, Strain etc. Design and performance of automobiles and aircrafts cannot be optimized without appropriate knowledge of Fluid Dynamics. Electrical systems, circuits and appliances are direct applications of Electromagnetism.

We at the Department of Physics at NUTECH strive to ensure that our students from all of the engineering disciplines become well versed in fundamentals of Physics and embark on their journey towards excellence in technology through world-class education in science engineering, technology, other technologies, other areas of scholarship, professional certifications, technical & vocational skills. An in-depth knowledge of basic physics, enables these students to solve engineering problems in a better way using the fundamental concepts of physics. The department of Physics is involved in teaching basic and advanced physics courses to different programs’ students at NUTECH. We are also involved in research in multiple domain including experimental high energy physics, renewable energy devices, nanotechnology and material science.

Research Areas

1. Experimental High Energy Physics

In experimental high energy physics, we study elementary particles and their properties which is vital for our understanding of the universe we live in. The field of study focuses on finding and investigating the most fundamental forces and nature of particles, and to advance human understanding of how the universe came into existence. The famous Higgs boson, Prof. Abdus Salam’s Electroweak theory, CERN, LHC, PAEC, are some of the key words and relevant aspects in experimental particle physics. Here at NUTECH, we are interested in investigating the phenomenological aspects of elementary particle interaction. With experience of working on Detectors, Data Analysis, Simulation and Software development, we are trying to keep the interest going with phenomenological studies as well as collaborating with other scientists involved in particle physics, in the region and at international level.

2. Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is the use of matter on an atomic, molecular, and supramolecular scale for industrial purposes. In this field of study, we deal with the manipulation of matter in nanoscale range. At NUTECH we create new nanomaterials for different applications such as Nano electronics, cancer treatment using magnetic nanoparticles, wearable nanofibers, wastewater treatment using biocompatible nanoparticles for clean environment applications. Our main focus is nanofabrication, characterization, analysis and the specular vision of industrial applications of nanomaterials and devices. Modeling and simulation of these fabricated nanoparticles is also performed for potential effects in global industrial applications.
