Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) is committed to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality education and fostering continuous improvement in academic institutions. In this context Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs) are established at all universities of Pakistan for promoting a culture of quality assurance and continuous improvement in educational institutions. Nutech Quality Assurance Department (NUQAD) is QEC of Nutech.
NUQAD Mission is to ensure that various academic and non-academic processes associated with all tiers of NUTECH knowledge eco-system remain aligned to university Vision, Mission and guidelines of the regulatory bodies. HEC policies, best international practices and requirements of other regulatory bodies.
The functions of NUQAD can be broadly categorized into two;
1. The National University of Technology (NUTECH) is committed to maintaining high academic standards through continuous quality enhancement and assurance processes. As part of this commitment, NUTECH has instituted a comprehensive self-assessment framework in line with guidelines issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. These processes are conducted at both institutional and program levels and support evidence-based decision-making for academic excellence, compliance, and strategic planning. All these reviews are discussed in detail in subsequent paragraphs.
2. External Quality Assurance Reviews
External QA reviews are independent assessments conducted by external parties to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance of a Quality Assurance (QA) systems, processes, and practices in various domain. These reviews are integral part of various under mentioned QA activities:
3. Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE)
HEC’s Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) is structured around eleven core standards, which serve as a foundation for measuring institutional effectiveness. In accordance with HEC guidelines, NUTECH conducted its Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) in year 2022-23 which involved a detailed external peer review. The evaluation assessed the university's performance against all eleven standards using HEC’s IPE Manual as a guide. Following the review, observations and recommendations were documented. Rector (competent authority) approved the implementation plan, demonstrating institutional accountability and leadership commitment to quality enhancement. All observations highlighted in review have been addressed. This process has been replaced by Review of Institutional Performance and Enhancement (RIPE) from 2024-25.
4. Graduate Program Review (GPR)
The Graduate Program Review (GPR) is another critical layer Quality Assurance framework, focused on the academic integrity and effectiveness of MS/MPhil and PhD programs. An external review is part of Assessment Team of GPR. Presently, following three MS programs are in progress at Nutech and have undergone GPRs: -
5. The observations highlighted in GPR have assisted in meeting required quality standards.
6. Self-Assessment Reviews
A Self-Assessment Review is an internal evaluation where all ongoing programs are reviewed by Program Team (PT) which critically analyzes their own program’s performance against standards and criteria. Subsequently, an Assessment Team (AT) which also have an external member validates compliance of standards. SAR is now conducted on PREE standards and following programs have gone SAR on this new standard:
7. Accreditation / Re-accreditation Visits
Accreditation / Re-accreditation visits by PEC, NCEAS and NTC provide a forum to evaluate the quality of education at NUTECH by external agencies. Following visits have been conducted in recent past:
8. Internal Quality Assurance Audit (IQAA)
IQAA is a yearly activity undertaken by NUQAD to evaluate the effectiveness of internal academic and administrative processes and its alignment with university policies. An audit team (AT) is constituted which has also included members from faculty. The team visits all departments / offices to review documentation, inspect facilities, and interact with faculty and students. Development of recommendations and implementation Plan with specified timelines and responsible personnel from the concerned departments are the outcome of this activity.

Feedback surveys play an important role in improving the quality of education by gathering insights from students, teachers, Alumni, and other stakeholders. They help educational institutions identify gaps, enhance teaching methods, and create a more effective learning environment. This activity is also a requisite part of instructions by the national academic / accreditation bodies. These surveys also have significant importance in Outcome Based Education (OBE).
