Engr. Dr. Marium Jalal

Associate Professor (CEN)

Dr. Marium is a visionary researcher, and academic leader whose groundbreaking contributions in use of technology for climate change solutions has redefined Pakistan’s role in global technological innovations. She was awarded with the Gold Medal for her Masters degree. Currently, she is Associate Professor of Computer Engineering and leading EU Center of Excellence in Climate Actions with ICT at NUETCH. In 2011, she made history by winning the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship for her PhD in Electrical and Information Engineering from Europe. Her ability to secure international funding for high-impact research projects has not only placed Pakistan on the global map for technological innovation but has also proven that Pakistani women can drive groundbreaking advancements on the international stage. She has been recognized for her scientific contribution through prestigious fellowships including the British Council’s Charles Wallace Fellowship 2024, and Pak-UK Education Gateway Research Program 2020.

Driven by a commitment to bridging technology and sustainability, Dr. Marium has led multiple high-impact research projects, including the €719,000 EU-funded "ACTIVE" project (2023-2026), which integrates Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into climate change solutions with 7 Consortium partners from Pakistan and Europe including University of Malaga, Spain, MTU Ireland and UPB Romania. She has credit of pioneering the establishment the Center of Excellence in Climate Change with ICT, fully funded by the European Union. Dr. Marium has achieved another milestone by securing the two fully funded International Credit Mobility (ICM) KA171 program between Pakistan and Ireland (2024–2028), funded by the European Union.

Beyond research, She has played a transformative role in shaping engineering education in Pakistan. At the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), she has led national-level projects and committees and played a key role in strengthening engineering programs as a Program Evaluator (PEV). As the Convener of the PEC Women Engineers Sub Committee, she has been a dedicated advocate for the inclusion and advancement of women in engineering. She has mentored dozens of young female researchers, enabling them secure prestigious EU-funded scholarships, thereby fostering a new generation of female innovators.

Her remarkable contributions include the world’s most prestigious awards, including the nomination for the UNESCO Hammad Bin Khalifa ICT Award milieu across Pakistan, recognizing her innovative use of ICT in tackling climate change and the Presidential Award at the National Idea Bank III (2024). Her outstanding work in innovation and education has set new standards for women in engineering, making her a perfect inspiration for future female generations.
