Seminar Explores Advancements in Tunneling in Pakistan

Nov 06, 2025

The National University of Technology (NUTECH) organized an informative seminar on “Tunneling in Pakistan,” aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of modern tunneling practices, engineering challenges and advancements in underground construction technologies.

The seminar was conducted by Mr. Muhammad Kashif, Senior Tunnel Geologist and Mr. Ajdar Nawaz, Deputy Manager at the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan. The speakers provided an in-depth overview of tunnel types, purposes and contemporary tunneling construction methodologies. They also discussed tunneling systems and rehabilitation processes, the role of civil engineers in tunnel development, and ongoing tunneling projects across Pakistan. Additionally, the session covered essential engineering and operational aspects including E&M (Electrical and Mechanical) services in tunnels, tunnel ventilation and air quality monitoring systems, lighting and fire safety infrastructure, communication systems and centralized tunnel control and monitoring mechanisms.

The interactive seminar enabled students to gain practical knowledge and industry exposure, encouraging them to explore career opportunities in the rapidly growing tunneling and underground construction sector in Pakistan. NUTECH continues to provide industry-linked academic platforms to equip students with emerging technical skills and promote applied learning in specialized engineering domains.
