Civil Engineering Labs

The Civil Engineering Department comprises seven labs.  The major equipment include Universal Testing Machine 2000 KN, Compression Testing Machine 5000 KN, Flow Channel, Hydrology and Rainfall Apparatus, Triaxial Testing Machine and Flexural Testing Machine 200 KN etc. 

Concrete Technology Lab

The objective of this lab is to introduce concepts of concrete production, properties of fresh and hardened concrete, constituents used in concrete like coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, cement, water cement ratio for a concrete, proportioning for different mix design methods, concrete strength evaluation methods by destructive testing like concrete compression cylinder and cube tests.

Transportation Engineering Lab

The objective of this lab is to introduce fundamental principles and methods to attempt and perform the experiments related to physical properties of pavement materials.

Surveying Lab

The objective of this lab is to introduce the fundamental principles and methods of advanced surveying and its application through experimental work.

  • Measurement of interior angles of traverse using electronic theodolite.
  • Determination of coordinates using total station.
  • Determination of coordinates using GPS.

Fluid Mechanics Lab

The objective of this lab is to introduce fundamental principles of fluid mechanics. Topics related to hydrostatics, conservation of mass, momentum and energy in fluid mechanics, flow nets, velocity distributions in laminar and turbulent flows, principles in hydraulics, with emphasis on open channel flow and hydraulic structures are taught in this lab.

Environmental Engineering Lab

The objective of this lab is to introduce concepts of environmental pollution, contamination and their sources in the context of water and waste water and to acquaint students with environmental engineering concepts.

Solid Mechanics Lab

This lab introduces fundamental principles and methods of structural mechanics.  In this laboratory, students perform various tests on materials in tension, compression, torsion, bending, and impact.

  • Demonstration of work done by a variable force (Tangential), as area under the graph of force.
  • Illustration of the effect of support conditions on the load carrying capacity of a slender column and buckling behavior in it

Geotechnical Engineering Lab

This lab provides an elementary introduction of Soil Mechanics such as measurement of in-situ density of soil, determination of moisture contents of soil, mechanical and hydrometer analysis, consolidation test of soil and all the topics necessary for the detailed study of Geotechnical Engineering
